Garage Conversion (Before Project Began, 10' Ceiling Standard Garage)
Boca Raton, Florida
Description: Sound Pressure Measurements were made with only a drum set and no acoustic treatment. These SPL measurements were recorded so that comparisons could be performed as the project progressed. The sound dampening and sound blocking effectiveness is measured at various construction phases. This ensures proper acoustic treatment.
Beginning the project
Garage Conversion to Studio: (First Phase)
The garage must be "ribbed" with wood to support fiber insulation and sound barrier seal. The fiber improves thermal and acoustic properties. The ribs will also help secure the final acoustic wall finish.
Spacing of ribs are critical along with depth and width. These ribs will support ALL of the acoustic layered treatments. First layer is fiber (3" thick compressed to 1.5"), the second layer is the sound barrier block which will be shown later, and the final acoustic absortion layer which will also be the interior finish.
View of the construction from the driveway or garage entrance. The client wants to maintain the access through the garage door while keeping sound from escaping to the neighbors and from traveling back into the house through windows etc.
The baby's room is located directly above the ceiling. This sound block will be very critical for this area. Measurements of sound pressure were taken before the project began with a clean bare garage and a drum set shown. As the project progresses, acoustic decibel level measurements will be made to determine the acoustic treatments effectiveness.
Metal Impregnated Vinyl Sound Block must be sealed for no air leaks
This is an almost completed picture of the Band/Recording Studio. Sound levels were reduced 100db outside room.
