Selecting an Acoustic Interface Pad (AIP)

It's Easy to choose a KTS AIP

Follow these 4 simple steps to select the correct AIP for your application.

Step 1.

Material Selection:
You must decide what type of AIP material you require for your specific application. You should read the data sheet descriptions of each of the 4 AIPs as you proceed. For example, if you own a pair of light weight satellite speakers, that required a strong adhesive for their satellite speaker stands, you might select the adhesopad since it consists of non-destructive, strong adhesive properties on each side of the pad, along with great vibration damping. If you require less adhesive with more vibration and sound damping characteristics, you may be interested in the Isodamp AIP since it has strong damping properties with a medium adhesive level. Another consideration is color. Isodamp is dark-black in color while Adhesopad is somewhat translucent and slightly white. Please contact us with your present needs, speaker or object specifications, and your desired result and we can assist with your AIP selection and set up.

Step 2.

Thickness Selection:
Once you know which material type is correct for your application, you must decide upon the thickness. Your AIP application thickness is chosen by the weight of each loudspeaker. Please refer to the AIP data specification sheets to determine the correct thickness required for your application. For example, if your situation includes a large full frequency range loudspeaker cabinet that weighs approximately 60 lbs., and requires increased vibration damping on a wood floor, the AIP choice would be "Isodamp Ultimate" which has a 3/8" thickness.

Step 3.

Size Selection:
OK, you have selected your AIP material type and thickness. Your next step is to determine the "length" and "width" of your pad. Whatever object or loudspeaker enclosure you are interfacing with a surface, it must have an area, surface, or feet upon which it rests. If your object is a loudspeaker enclosure, you will have to measure the resting surface’s length and width. Say for example, your cabinet’s base is 9" x 9", the best fit predetermined size AIP is the 8" x 8". The 8" x 8" will cover the most surface area (on the resting surface) without protruding from underneath the cabinet. For special sizing, please contact us. We will be glad to customize. Please note that KTS AIPs are easily cut to size with regular scissors or razor blade type cutting tools. To cover other areas of objects or loudspeakers, simply determine the area (length and width) to be dampened (covered) and order or request accordingly.
